Today I went on a European only car cruise that consisted of VW’s, Audi’s and a handful of BMW’s. It was pretty bad ass! Since getting my 83 MK1 GTI project car I’ve met a lot of rad new people and have gotten to hang out with other gear heads who have share a passion for automobiles. We all met near the University of Utah in a parking lot, I was expecting the usual 25 cars or so but the parking lot kept on filling up as enthusiasts poured in by the droves. I have no idea how many cars actually showed up, but there was a ton.
At least 100 cars convoyed up from The U with a Lamborghini and a Lotus leading the way through Immigration Canyon and ending at East Canyon Reservoir. The drive offered lots of twisties and scenic views. The foliage change was pretty awesome as well. We headed back to SLC on 80 where it was pretty wide open, I had the GTI’s whopping 85 mph speedo buried most of the way back. We all reconvened at Winners Motorsports, a go cart race track, where pizza and drinks were provided. Everybody proceeded to talk about nothing but car shit, I’d never experienced anything like it at all!
Mad props to the guys at Style Projekts aka STP Euros and TDC Motorsports for organizing the event and providing food! I can’t wait to do it again next year!

Had another sick day on the the lake. ZERO boats and glass.. Definitely one of the best days of the season!

Today I went wakeboarding with my buddy Tommy DeAngelo of High Altitude Wakeboarding on his sweet Supra 22SSV.. Water temp was around 60 and there were zero boats on the lake.. The water was glass for a while then a storm set in. Here are a few pics I snapped, some of my best wake ones yet. I learned some new focus techniques that seemed to work pretty well.

I put new Vogtland sport suspension on the GTI this weekend. Sorry I don’t have install pics but it was pretty straight forward, thanks to my buddy Keith for letting me use his spring compressor. The thing is LOW now and handles like it’s on rails now. Here are a a few shots I quickly took in the driveway.
Next on the list is a paint job and drop in a 16V Turbo..250+ hp in a 1,800 lb go cart, oh yea! I plan keeping the appearance as original as possible, down to the sweet red stripe when I get it painted. I’m contemplating on keeping the snowflake rims or going with period correct wheels such as ATS Cups or Ronal Turbos.
It’s been cool transforming this from a non running wreck to a fun toy.

This Saturday we went up to Huntsville, UT which is about an hour north of Park City, UT. My friend owns 66 acres of hard to access property. It was pretty cool to get away from Park City and enjoy nature.

Today I spotted some Moose up in Summit Park near my girlfriend’s house. The momma moose was just hanging out with her two calves. I managed to get really close and they didn’t mind at all that I was there as they just ignored me.

I went to down to a local VW gathering this weekend too meet up w/some fellow Dubbers from VW Vortex. It was a small turnout but I got to meet some cool new people and talk shop about cars. I’m convinced I want to to a 16V Turbo swap in my Rabbit GTI. 250 + horsepower in my 1800 lb Rabbit = FAST! Hopefully this winter.
Also check the awful RX-7 mutant vehicle that I snapped pics of. Ford Focus headlights, Chrysler Crossfire fenders and crazy custom rear end!

Took a nice drive in the Uintah Mtns today and managed to get some good pics of the project GTI and some of the landscape.

I went to my first VW gathering since getting the 1983 GTI up and running. I was on the only old skool VW there, it was was really cool to meet some new car dude and check out the other cool rides. Hopefully soon I will have my GTI tricked out!
